Could Supermarket be in store at DIY site

Our area has been crying out for a new supermarket for years and at long last there is a glimmer of light on the horizon.

Our area has been crying out for a new supermarket for years and at long last there is a glimmer of light on the horizon.

A planning application has been submitted to Bristol City Council for two new stores, Aldi and Home Bargains, on the old B&Q site in Muller Road.

The application has been made by FirstPlan who act on behalf of USF Nominees Ltd c/o CBRE Global Investors who own the site. Permission is being sought for:

Continued use within Class A1 (retail) with an allowance for the sale of food and drink (convenience goods) from part of the former B&Q unit(1,529 sq m in total–44% of the total floor area of the former B&Q building); and the refurbishment of the site–including the demolition of the garden centre, associated improvements to the car parking layout and external alterations to the building.

In their Design and Access Statement they go on to say that the external garden centre will be removed and replaced with an improved car parking layout. The provision of new cladding and additional glazing will bring visual interest to the building and will result in a significant improvement to the appearance of the site. The landscaping will remain unchanged and access will remain unchanged.

The application goes on to say that there is currently uncertainty over the delivery of the approved Lidl scheme also in Muller Road but on the old Ford Site.

The application has a reference number 17/01466/F and can be viewed on the Bristol City Council web-site.
