Fun for all at Love Lockleaze Festival

Lockleaze residents braved the drizzle and flocked to the Love Lockleaze Festival which was held on Gainsborough Square in mid-July.

The festival was organised by Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust with support from United Communities and Studio 7. Last year we received £2000 from the Neighbourhood Partnership budget which wasn't available this year and there was also a small reduction in the money we received from Bristol City Council festival fund meaning that this years festival had less than half the budget from previous years. We are grateful that Bristol City Council did award us money from their festival fund otherwise the festival could not have gone ahead. We also received funding support from United Communities, Aura Power and through donations such as Tesco who donated prizes for the raffle (thanks to PCSO Charlotte for getting the swag from Tesco).

We are grateful to our new MP, Darren Jones, who paid us a visit.

There were lots of great stalls there on the day including: Tony’s Super whippy, Kidz World, the Friends of Stoke Park, Ken and Sheila’s Walking Group, Kate Whitfield’s Crafts, Robin’s pre-school club, St Mary’s Church, Glenfrome Primary School, Home made Cakes, Pastor Grace, Aunt Lakisha’s Kitchen, Claire Banham’s Crafts, Avon Wildlife Trust, UWE, Ape Project, Estate Planning, Quite So Designs, Second hand stall, Lockleaze Labour group, Studio 7 and a variety of food sale outlets.

Buzz were open on a Saturday for the event with a barbecue and North Bristol Advice Centre hosted a jumble sale outside their shop too that raised the staggering sum of £320 with all leftovers going to a re-cycling charity.

We had great taster sessions as well with Zumba from Jas who runs a class on Tuesday morning at the Hub and Euan teaching Tae Kwon Do, he also runs a class at the Hub, he teaches on Monday evening.

St Mary's once again hosted teas and coffees in the church for a relaxing venue away from the hustle and bustle (and driving wind) on the square. This year in addition to the amazing Ukulele band and art display there was also a Lockleaze baking competition with a delicious winning entry from Stacey Barnes.

It was great to have the emergency services (police and fire engine on the square) too.

Suzanne Wilson, CEO of Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust says, “The day was complete with the amazing community awards - the first for Horfield and Lockleaze and hopefully the beginning of an annual tradition as it is so lovely to publicly recognise all the work that people do in the community and to encourage more people to join in. We are grateful for all the stall holders and all the residents and for our sponsors without whom it couldn't have gone ahead. We hope that people will help fundraise for the Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust and join our events committee to keep the event running in the future”.
