At the end of the Love Lockleaze Festival the inaugural Horfield and Lockleaze Community Awards were presented by three of our councillors, Claire Hiscott, Estella Tincknell and Gill Kirk; and we were extremely honoured to be judged as the Best Business. An award not just for the Voice but for everyone who engages with it.

We  were lucky enough to be invited to a Volunteers Celebration event at City Hall and while we were there we got chatting to the person who produces the community magazine in Henbury and Brentry. They do community awards there and we came away thinking that this is something our community must do as this is something that will bring our community even closer together.

Over the past weeks people have been busy nominating people and projects, panels have been selected and judging done. The winners were:

Community Project: Jointly won by Energise at Horfield Leisure and The Old Library Project.

Parent in a Million: Jointly won by Stacey Barnes and Natasha Louis-Elizabeth.

Young Achiever: Jack Bryant.

Long-standing volunteer: Sue Flint.

Good Neighbour: Maria Perrett

Best Youth Project: LPW at the Vench

Older Adult Project: Footprints at Ebenezer Church

Best Business: Horfield and Lockleaze Voice

Community Volunteer: Rachel Varley.

The Horfield and Lockleaze Voice would like to thank the following people for their help and support: Suzanne Wilson at LNT for her unqualified support, everyone who nominated someone, our excellent three panels of judges, our great councillors for presenting the awards, Ben Costigan Photography and Rachel Varley for producing the certificates.
