Lockleaze's Lee on top of the world.....again!

Lockleaze's Lee Haskins retained his IBF World Bantamweight titleLockleaze’s Lee Haskins retained his IBF World Bantamweight title when he out-pointed his bitter rival Stuart Hall at the O2 Arena in London.

Southpaw Haskins, 32, had the better of the early rounds regularly making Hall miss and although Hall made a strong comeback towards the end of the fight when Haskins tired the judges unanimously awarded the fight Haskins way scoring it 115-113, 117-111 and 116-112. This was the 34th victory in 37 fights in Haskins’ professional career.

Speaking to the Horfield and Lockleaze Voice Haskins said, “I am a Lockleaze boy born and raised, the support I get from my friends and neighbours is amazing really and I just want to thank them for being part of my journey and hopefully I can keep doing them proud.” When asked what his future plans are Haskins went onto add, “At the moment I am just enjoying the win, it was a hard fight so I will be making the most of a rest before I get back to any hard training.

A few of my gym mates are boxing next month at Ashton Gate so I’ll be in the gym helping them prepare. Haven’t thought about a next opponent yet it would be nice to have a voluntary opponent in Bristol or Cardiff again and then have a big name unification next summer”.

We went on to ask him if it was frustrating to have to go to London for his World Title fights and be on the under-card where if he could stay in Bristol for these fights he would be the headline act. Haskins replied, “ I’ve been lucky to have some of my best moments in Bristol, beating Stuart Hall the first time (Clevedon) and knocking out Iwasa at Ashton Gate. Obviously I’d love to defend my world title here but it’s frustrating not having a big venue so that we can put on a massive show. At the same time its been a good experience travelling over to Vegas for the Cotto-Canelo and last weekend at Brook-Golovkin, the exposure you get from a show and build up like that is crazy”.
