It was an honour to attend the unveiling of a Victoria Stone to mark the centenary of former Horfield resident, Lance-Corporal Frederick Room, being awarded the Victoria Cross. His heroism in organising stretcher-bearers and treating the wounded saved many lives at Frezenberg in Belgium, on 16th August, 1917. (see attached photo) Claire Hiscott, myself, the Lord Mayor and Lord Lieutenant were there, along with councillors, members of the armed forces, and relatives of Lance-Corporal Room. It was a touching ceremony, and the stone is just next  to the ruins of St Peter's church, Castle Park.

I have recently asked for traffic and air quality monitoring along the main arterial roads in north Bristol, so that the Council can use the data to support applications for money to address traffic problems likely to be caused by the new housing development around Filton airfield. This was supported by councillors of all parties at a meeting of the Place scrutiny commission, and officers will now be asked to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

The Council has a number of consultations underway, on issues ranging from libraries and public toilets, to provision for people with HIV and adult social care. All the consultations are still able to be accessed on the Council website, so please do make sure your views are heard by filling in the on-line questionnaires.
