Sky's the limit for brave Stacey!

A few months ago we carried the story of Horfield resident and brave mum Stacey Purnell who was planning on doing a skydive for Southmead Hospital’s NICU (neonatal intensive care unit).

We are delighted to report that despite two cancelled attempts due to the poor weather Stacey has now completed her skydive. Stacey says, “today the weather was on my side, and I was able to jump 15,000ft out of the plane into the beautiful blue skies at 125mph free fall. I then began my descend and sight seeing while flying through the sky on my parachute while controlling it doing 360 degree spins shouting "woo hoo" and later attempting to gracefully land along side my tandem instructor EJ. I am so pleased to have raised a worthy amount for a charity close to my heart, and I want to say thank you to anyone who has helped me some way on this journey I am sad to see it coming to an end. Although I have reached my new target of £1500 this isn't my grand total as still have money to come in so will update once I know the final amount. I am thrilled to have been able to give something back for such a fantastic unit who helped my family!”

The Unit is a well established neonatal service with specialist medical and neurological treatment providing intensive care, high dependency care, special care and transitional care for hundreds of babies each year. Based at Southmead Hospital it is one of the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Units for the South Western Delivery Network, and has 34 cots, comprising of 16 Intensive care  or high dependency cots and 18 special care cots.

Stacey has currently raised the magnificent sum of £ 1,681.63 and her fund-raising appeal can be accessed at
