Bristol Playbus to close

Bristol Playbus are very sad to announce that after 45 years of providing mobile and outreach, play and disability services to the children of Bristol and surrounding counties, we will be closing the charity at the end of September 2019.

Due to massive cuts in funding for play over the past couple of years, we are unable to continue to provide the services we would wish and so have taken the decision to close.

Bristol Playbus was established in 1974 driving the Playbus into communities to provide play opportunities for children living in areas that were lacking facilities.Gradually, over the years, we expanded our services and vehicles, using our double decker arts and play buses, a musical play truck and our specially converted Sensory Truck for inclusion, as well as setting up Playranger sessions using risky play in parks and open spaces across the city and beyond.

Bristol Playbus has engaged hundreds of staff and Management Committee members over the years, both full, part time and volunteers, all of whom have given the organisation a huge commitment to the importance of play.   We pushed the boundaries and were part of Bristol’s leading strategy groups advocating Every Childs Right to Play. To all our funders and supporters, past and present, to all the families and children who came onto the Playbus and used our services.  We will be organising a farewell drink at the end of September/early October for friends, colleagues and staff of Bristol Playbus, past and present. Come and reminisce, share your memories and say farewell to this iconic Bristol institution. GOODBYE AND WE THANK YOU ALL.If you want to send a message contact Katie Hanchard-Goodwin
