Could we have a community-led approach to housing in Lockleaze?

Do you think housing (rent and buy) is too expensive? Are you worried that the 1000+ homes the Council plans to build in Lockleaze might not benefit local residents?

Well this was the concern for lots of residents in Lockleaze and earlier this year a group of residents worked with Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust to explore whether we could have a different, community led approach to housing. A community led approach means that residents determine what is important. The pilot group met over a number of months and identified affordability as the number 1 priority, with issues such as building for wellbeing and community, and accessibility also being important. The group have spoken with the Council who are looking to support such groups across the city that want to design and build homes for residents in their community, as part of the response to the housing crisis.

Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust has secured some funding from Power to Change to continue the project and develop planning proposals. It is now time to recruit local residents to the steering group, as well as a wider group of people who want to be kept up to date with what is happening in the your area.
