Friends of Stoke Park enjoy their big picnic together

The Friends of Stoke Park held their second annual “big community picnic” on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon in early August. Held at the end of their regular monthly litter pick it gave park users and local people a great chance to meet.

Games and a lovely spread of food were provided with some people bringing their own dishes to share.

Attendees were treated to an impromptu performance by Lockleaze’s Singing Group who were themselves celebrating their first birthday. Set up in July of last year, their aim is to sing for wellbeing. They meet every Thursday at 6.30pm at St Mary’s Church in Gainsborough Square and new members will be made to feel very welcome. As they say “no talent is required”.

It has been a busy Summer for the Friends of Stoke Park. Just a few days later they held, with Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, a walk to Snuff Mills through the park. Led by LNT’s Saliha Ahmed they enjoyed a cup of tea and on the way back they met Steve England and Teddy, who gave them a guided tour and showed them some amazing things on the way home. Foraged foods, making fish with ivy twine and how to wash your hands with natural soap from horse chestnut leaves!

The Friends of Stoke Park would like to thank Buzz Lockleaze and the Co-Op (Cheswick and Horfield stores) for their very kind donations of food and drinks for the community picnic.
