Litter pickers tidying up our community
The new Love Horfield movement is gathering pace and is responsible for a great feeling of togetherness around Horfield.
The Horfield’s Got Talent event was a great success and as reported elsewhere in these pages a Horfield Recipe Book is being created. Following hot on the heels of these initiatives is a group of litter pickers, all local residents, who are getting together and tidying up our streets.
The group has been put together by local resident Helen Wong. Helen says, “Me and my family have always been keen litter pickers and our motto is to leave every park or woods we visit in a better state than we found it! It’s really important to me that my 4 year old son, Caleb, understands the value of community and caring for our planet.
“I have long been frustrated at the amount of litter in Horfield and Lockleaze, so when I heard you could borrow equipment from Bristol Waste on a long term loan I knew that I would like to set up a regular community litter pick.
“We meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month at 10am outside Ebenezer Church. We plan to cover as much of Horfield and Lockleaze as possible and our next undertaking will be the footpath next to the railway that connects the two communities.
All are welcome, including families and we have pickers and hoops to borrow!’
