One of the victims of the Council’s spending cuts this year was the hugely popular Love Lockleaze Festival which is held one Saturday every summer in Gainsborough Square.

That wasn’t good enough for Lockleaze resident Lakisha Adllam. Lakisha, who runs her own Caribbean cooking business Nae Deluxe with her business partner Trasi Lewis has decided to run a festival herself, the Unity Festival which will be held in Gainsborough Square on Saturday, 25th August from noon until 8pm. Lakisha and Trasi have got together with Danny from Power Jam Radio to host the event.

Supported by United Communities, Buzz Lockleaze and Richard Reddrop the festival will be aimed at families until 5pm with the music becoming the main focus after this. Lakisha says that the only money she will take from the Festival will be what her Nae Deluxe stall makes and all profits will be given to Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust and The Vench with a view to Halloween and Christmas events being held. It is Lakisha’s eventual aim to provide a pot of money that can be used to help struggling Lockleaze families.
