Sports Centre is now fully functional
If you haven’t seen it, then you’ve probably heard about it…. Lockleaze Sports Centre is now fully operational and from September 3rd will be open 7 days a week.
Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the bar and food, hire function rooms for private events and of course use the sports facilities. All major sporting events will be shown in the bar.
LSC is a not-for-profit project which will bring the community together through sport and social events. LSC is funded by Bristol and District Rugby Football Combination Foundation, UWE and Bristol City Council. The site on Bonnington Walk was previously home to Ashley Down Old Boys RFC, Bishopston RFC and Lockleaze Community FC, all of whom will benefit from the new first-class facilities.
This much anticipated £7m project has been the vision of a board of Trustees who will continue to develop the site into phase 2, which will include a gym, sports hall and further community facilities. One of the main features is a 200 (seated) capacity function room which overlooks the state of the art 4G rugby and football pitches. Also, is a viewing terrace of a similar size which is perfect for enjoying sport and socialising in the fresh air.
LSC is has a strong focus on grassroots level sport but is also home to Bristol Rovers Community Trust, Bristol Rovers Academy and Bristol Bears Community Foundation.
“Ultimately the purpose of the project is to positively affect as many lives as possible by engaging the whole community, from local sports clubs to a wide range of community groups. There is no membership required to use the facilities, our aim is to be welcoming, affordable and accessible. We would be delighted to show you around the site so please feel welcome to come and see us”, says Executive Director, Guy Hollis.
