All the latest news from The Vench
We’ve had such an exciting autumn at The Vench! In September we ran a triumphant crowdfunding campaign which raised £2500 for some essential work and exciting improvements, which you’ll begin seeing the benefits of shortly.
October saw the launch of our FoodClub, which now has over 40 members who have diverted more than 1 tonne of food from landfill! We also welcomed 400 people for bonfire night in November, run by Learning Partnership West, and everyone got to enjoy roasted marshmallows and an incredible fireworks display.
Here’s what you can expect to see coming up soon!
LPW have been running play sessions at The Vench for many years, and for the last 18 months when funding for play has been reduced they’ve been bridging that gap and continuing to run sessions from their own funding. However this is no longer sustainable and from November 14 th the play sessions will be run by Groundwork instead – they will still be free, open access play sessions on Thursdays and Fridays, but with a new time of 3.30-6pm. A massive thank you to LPW and all they’ve done with us over the years!
We are recruiting volunteer play workers to help us keep the playground open! Volunteers will join a programme that offers play worker training and mentoring support. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills working with children and young people and support The Vench. Our first play worker training day will be on Monday 25 th November. For more information, speak to Charley in the office!
We’ll be having a Festive Wreath Making workshop on Tuesday 3 December, 7-9pm. Join Emily from Floreli Floristry for a fun and relaxed evening making festive wreaths to display at home – you’ll be the envy of the neighbourhood! We will have plenty of drinks, nibbles and all the materials needed to make your wreath. You don’t need to be an arty person and you don’t need to have any floristry experience, Emily will guide us through the process. For more info and tickets, search on Facebook for the event ‘Festive Wreath Making’ hosted by The Vench!
Join us for tree planting on Saturday 30 November, 11am-2pm. The Woodland Trust is calling on one million people to pledge to plant a tree to help us fight the climate emergency. This year, on 30 November there will be a mass participation tree planting day with events across the country. Join us in The Big Climate Fightback. We will be planting 200 hedgerow trees around the perimeter of the playground at The Vench. For more information, see our Facebook event ‘Tree Planting at The Vench’.
We are also now taking bookings for birthday parties at The Vench! If your child wants a fun-packed party on our adventure playground, with activities like fire lighting, minibeast hunting, nature crafts, or pizza making, then get in touch and book today!
For more information about any of the above, visit our website (www.thevench.co.uk) or our Facebook page (@TheVench) or call us (0117 910 3930). We look forward to seeing you at one of our play sessions or events soon!
